The RCR Committee, Graduate School, and Office of Research, Economic Engagement and Outreach hold workshops each academic year on the theme, Research Integrity from Inception through Dissemination, addressing issues that arise during the life cycle of a research study. Information about upcoming workshops is posted below. At the bottom of the webpage you will find the RCR Workshop Library containing videos of past offerings.
Balancing Innovation and Integrity: Exploring the Ethics of Using Generative AI in Research
Thursday, October 31, 2024, 12:40-2:00pm
Dimond Library, Room 421
The rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is transforming the research landscape, offering unprecedented opportunities for innovation and efficiency. These advancements, however, also present challenges for research integrity. This workshop explores the ethical implications of integrating generative AI into the research process generally, as well as specifically in research involving human participants.
Participants will gain insights into the responsible use of generative AI tools, addressing issues such as data privacy and confidentiality, plagiarism, and authorship. Attendees will learn strategies for leveraging AI in their research while maintaining high standards of transparency, accuracy, and ethical responsibility in their work. This workshop is designed for researchers at all career stages who are navigating the evolving role of generative AI in research and are committed to fostering a culture of integrity in their field.
