Spill Response
The following are recommended procedures for evaluating and handling a spill:
- Select disinfectant for specific organism/material (disinfectant guide)
- Determine contact time needed for disinfectant to work
- Gather Cleanup Materials:
- Disinfectant
- Forceps
- Paper towels
- Autoclavable container/bags
- Follow cleanup procedure for applicable scenario:
Exposure Response
In the event of exposure, wash the area with soap and water or flush eyes, nose or mouth with large amounts of water for 15 minutes.

Required Reporting & Documentation
All spills, exposures (overt or potential), accidents, and injuries involving biological materials must be documented and reported to EH&S by completing a Biological Material Incident Form.
