The Support Team for the Administration of Research (STAR)
STAR helps USNH Faculty and Principal Investigators (PIs) focus on their groundbreaking and world-class research, service, and scholarly efforts by providing centric research administration support for proposals, grants, awards and contracts throughout the various steps in the lifecycle:
Research Administrators (RAs) are master jugglers. They:
- develop and/or oversee research proposals, awards, and transactions in contract and grant management
- manage the PI’s financial portfolio
- coordinate and collaborate with the PI, Department, Center, School, College or Institute, Institutional Finance, Financial Operations Center and other campus partners.
STAR is part of the Sponsored Programs Administration team and collaborates with the two other units to submit proposals, and to administer financial and accounting services for sponsored awards:
Pre-Award Compliance (PAC)
PAC is responsible for reviewing, authorizing and submitting proposals. This team is responsible for interpreting, negotiating, and accepting grants and contracts for sponsored projects funded by federal and state agencies, foundations and other public and private sources, and providing non-financial guidance to assure proper stewardship of funds that are received.
Accounting and Financial Compliance (AFC)
AFC supports the financial administration of externally-funded projects. This team is responsible for billing and letter of credit drawdown of funds, financial reporting, time and effort certification, cash deposits, accounts receivable review and reconciliation and award closeout. AFC also serves as a resource to the research community providing guidance on expenditure allowability, interpretation of policies and audit coordination and support.
