Federal Agencies
Grants.gov - Grant Making Agencies
Brief descriptions of the 26 Federal agencies that use the Grants.gov portal to post funding opportunities
Assistance Listings
(Replaces Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance, CFDA)
Assistance listings are detailed public descriptions of federal programs that provide grants, loans, scholarships, insurance, and other types of assistance awards. You may browse assistance listings across all government agencies to learn about potential funding sources.
Note: The assigned Assistance Listing Number (ALN; formerly CFDA#) identifies the program, but may not be a unique identifier for a specific competition or submission deadline.
Contract Opportunities
(Replaces Federal Business Opportunities, commonly known as Fed Biz Opps or FBO)
Contract opportunities are procurement notices from federal contracting offices. Anyone interested in doing business with the government can use this system to search opportunities. Opportunities include pre-solicitation notices, solicitation notices, award notices, and sole source notices.
Postings include grant funding opportunities from some agencies, most notably the Dept. of Energy and the Dept. of Defense, including DARPA.
Note: All agencies are required to post notices of competitive grant opportunities in Grants.gov, even if they also are posted elsewhere. A Grants.gov Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) may link back to beta.SAM.gov to access the full announcement and other related documents.
Published by the Office of the Federal Register, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents.
The Dept. of Education (US ED) routinely publishes its grant announcements in the Federal Register in addition to grants.gov.
This site provides links to virtually all Federal branches, departments, executive agencies, and independent agencies, as well at to State and Local government sites.
This site provides information about federal spending on research and development grants and contracts over time, as well as other categories of spending.
