Mobile Elevating Work Platform Safety

*Formerly Aerial Lift Safety*

The use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) at UNH can lead to serious injuries to not only operators, but those working in proximity.  To protect employees required to operate MEWPs the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has developed multiple standards that outline safe operating practices, inspection procedures, and training requirements.

UNH Mobile Elevating Work Platform Program

To protect operators and those employees that may work in proximity to areas where MEWPs are or may be operated, UNH has developed a comprehensive program.  The program establishes specific requirements for training and use.

The program is designed to ensure that only those trained and certified operators operate UNH MEWPs.  Under no circumstance should anyone that has not completed the appropriate training operate a UNH MEWP.

Support from OEHS

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is available to assist individual departments that use and operate MEWPs.  Assistance may include:

  • Training coordination;
  • Program review and audits; and
  • Periodic operator observations
