NSF RCR Training FAQs

Any postdoctoral researcher, graduate student, or undergraduate student who is supported by National Science Foundation (NSF) to conduct research on a grant that was submitted to NSF on or after January 4, 2010 must receive appropriate training and oversight in the ethical and responsible conduct of research (RCR).

In January 2019, NSF added that it strongly encourages the training of faculty in RCR.

Any individuals identifed on an applicable NSF proposal (i.e., submitted to NSF on or after January 4, 2010) as postdoctoral researchers and who are then supported by the NSF grant in this capacity, regardless of their title at UNH (e.g., Research Scientist II) are considered post-doctoral researchers and therefore must receive appropriate RCR training and oversight.

The training requirement applies to undergraduates who are paid on an applicable NSF grant (i.e., one submitted to NSF on or after January 4, 2010) to conduct research.
