Mandated Education Programs

We provide education and counseling to students who have been referred/mandated by Community Standards or legal court systems for alcohol and/or other drug violations.

You have been referred to the Health & Wellness education program because you have been involved in a violation of UNH policies, or you have been arrested for an alcohol or other drug infraction.

Our program is tailored to your individual needs and goals. It is designed to help you gain knowledge and skills to make more informed choices in the future.

Level 1 Education

Three-Step Process

  1. Meet with an Educator/Counselor for a 1-hour confidential counseling appointment.
  • Schedule by phone (603-862-3823) or visit Health & Wellness, Room 249 to make an appointment.
  • You must have your student ID, current address, phone number, the name of the referral, and why.
  • You must also bring copies of your court agreement, police report, and/or conduct paperwork to your appointment.
  1. Complete 2.5 hours of health/wellness education, provided by Health & Wellness.
  • Bring a writing utensil. All other materials will be provided.
  • You must attend the complete class. You may not attend a class that you are not registered to attend.
  • Do not arrive late. You will not be admitted and you will be charged for a missed class.
  1. Meet with an Educator/Counselor for a 30-minute follow-up session.
  • Bring all classroom materials.
  • You must comply if you receive additional recommendations, which may include additional sessions or services at Health & Wellness, services at Psychological and Counseling Services (PACS), or services from an outside therapist.

Fees

A $75 payment is due after you have completed step 3. Payments may be made in the Billing Office (Health & Wellness, first floor) by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover.

Level 2 Education

If you are mandated for a second - or multiple - offense, you will work individually with an Alcohol, Nicotine, and Other Drugs (ANOD) Educator/Counselor for up to three, 1-hour confidential counseling sessions.

After the third, or final session, the ANOD Educator/Counselor may refer you to a local provider (you will be responsible for any cost of an outside provider).

Make your initial appointment

  • Schedule by phone (603-862-3823) or visit Health & Wellness, Room 249 to make an appointment.
  • You must have your student ID, current address, phone number, the name of the referral, and why.
  • You must also bring copies of your court agreement, police report, and/or conduct paperwork to your appointment.

A $60 payment is due after each session. Payments may be made in the Billing Office (Health & Wellness, first floor) by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. At your request, we can also work with your insurance company.

No-Show & Cancellation Fees

Due to the high demand of our program, you will be charged an additional $75 fee if you:

  • Do not reschedule your appointment or class by 4pm the day before
  • Do not attend
  • Arrive late (you will not be admitted late to classes)

Program Completion

In order to comply with your sanctions from the UNH Community Standards (or other off-campus referal source), it is necessary to complete all education and counseling requirements determined by your Health & Wellness provider.

Once you have completed the program, the person who referred you will be notified.

  • You will need to sign a medical release of information if this person is not associated with the Office of Community Standards (i.e., your attorney).
