Update on University Efforts to Address Student Pharmacy Needs (10/10/25)
MEETING YOUR PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION NEEDS ON CAMPUS
- Health & Wellness medical providers can prescribe medication to treat various health needs.
- We stock some commonly used medication for students who are seen at Health & Wellness to purchase at a minimal cost without submitting claims through their insurance.
- For medication we do not stock, medical providers will write a prescription to a pharmacy of your choice.
- Health & Wellness accepts and stores temperature-controlled medications shipped directly from specialty pharmacies to Health & Wellness.
OPTIONS FOR ACCESSING PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION OFF CAMPUS
- Check with your insurance carrier to see if they can ship your medications to Granite Square Station or local apartment address.
- Online pharmacies provide medication through the mail.
- You can access medication through one of the pharmacies in the local area (Hannaford, Walgreens, CVS in Dover, Walmart in Newington).
WAYS TO ACCESS YOUR MEDICATION
- Delivery - Most medication can be delivered to Granite Square Station, PO Box, or campus/community address
- Mail-order (insurance company or online pharmacy). Medication delivered to your address.
- Walgreens in Lee (Free same-day and 1-2 day delivery) Medication delivered to your address.
- Other local pharmacies (e.g., Walgreens, CVS, Hannaford in Dover or Walmart in Newington) Delivery availability, times and cost vary by pharmacy. Medication delivered to your address.
Please note:
- Medication that is temperature-controlled or is a controlled substance cannot be delivered. These must be picked up directly at the pharmacy.
- Health & Wellness accepts, and stores temperature-controlled medication shipped directly from specialty pharmacies to Health & Wellness.
Pick Up by personal or public transportation at any of the local pharmacies (Hannaford, Walgreens, CVS in Dover, Walmart in Newington).
If you do not have personal transportation, you can use public transportation to access the following pharmacies:

Hannaford (Dover Fields Rt 108 or Central Ave., Dover), CVS (Sterling Way, Dover) or Walgreen (Central Ave., Dover). 3A bus route

Walgreens offers free same-day (prescription submitted by 5 p.m.) and 1–2-day delivery to campus and community addresses, including Granite Square (when open).
When ordering a prescription, a delivery charge may appear initially, but it will be removed at checkout.

ACCESS TO OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICATION
- Health & Wellness offers some non-prescription medications at reduced cost through our Business Office, Room 113. List of non-prescription medication and cost
- Hannaford in downtown Durham.
- Order online through Amazon, Walmart, Target, or pharmacies.
- Pick up at local pharmacies either by personal transportation or public transportation.
