Ways to Collaborate

Knowledge

We work collaboratively with faculty to create and deliver specialized career presentations to your students. We tailor our presentations to the students in your course(s) based on specific majors and desired industry. Whether you invite us to your class for a 5-minute shout out or for a 50-minute presentation, we are happy to share our expertise with your students.

This introductory presentation delineates the resources our office provides. We cover how CaPS can support students in each step of their career development from career exploration, creating career documents, finding meaningful experiential learning opportunities and jobs, to preparing for an interview. This presentation is ideal for freshman seminar classes.

This presentation helps guide students in drafting effective resumes that detail relevant skills and experiences for careers in students' desired field. Students will also learn the purpose of a cover letter and how to create a document that is both concise and convincing. This presentation will be tailored to meet the student needs (targeted major or industry).

Students learn the importance of clearly articulating their strengths, passions, and value during networking interactions, through written documents, and during an interview.  This interactive presentation focuses on communication skills and how students can effectively demonstrate their skills in a memorable way.

Experiential learning opportunities are invaluable experiences for students to aid them in determining a career path, applying knowledge learned in the classroom, and gain real-world experiences. This presentation not only discusses the value of these experiences but guides students in search strategies and available resources.

Preparing for an interview can be daunting. This presentation provides students with tips to prepare for a successful interview. Topics covered include how to prepare prior to the interview, what to expect and tips during the interview, and how to appropriately follow up post-interview. During this presentation students are given the chance to practice answering interview questions and are provided with feedback.

Students will learn how to be proactive rather than reactive as they search for jobs. Preparing quality written documents, using networking skills, and maintaining an organizational system will be covered. This presentation will be tailored to provide students in a specific field with job search tips and resources.

Students who are administered the Jackson Career Explorer interest assessment are provided with details on how to understand their assessment reports. Students gain suggested next steps and resources including further career exploration tools and tips on conducting informational interviews with industry experts.

Students are guided through an interactive activity to determine their own Holland code. Discussion centers around understanding one’s own personality type and how this can aid one in locating a meaningful and fulfilling career. This presentation can be tailored to include sample jobs within a designated career field for a variety of personality types.

This hands-on presentation walks students through creating a comprehensive LinkedIn profile. Students will understand the purpose and value of this networking platform. Students will be encouraged to expand their network by connecting with peers, joining relevant groups, use the alumni search feature, and learn how to appropriately reach out to individuals.

Students who make the most of Career and Internship Fair do so by preparing in advance. This presentation guides students through how to identify and research relevant companies prior to the fair. Students will learn how to introduce themselves to employers and learn tips on successful follow-up. Students will leave this workshop with a clear idea of what to expect at the fair and a plan to develop their individual action strategy.

Students will understand the importance of negotiating their salary upon receiving a job offer. This presentation provides students with resources to research a target salary range. Additionally, students will leave his presentation knowing how to clearly articulate their value to an employer during a salary negotiation.

Students learn proper procedures and protocols for conducting themselves in various business and professional environments. Effective communication through multiple mediums including in-person, phone, and email conversations are discussed. Strategies for dressing for success in the workplace are also presented.
