Career and Professional Success Internships

Career and Professional Success hires interns to join our fast-paced and exciting world of student and employer engagement. We look for personable, professional, and polished students to expand our reach across campus. Roles available support Employer Relations/Events/Operations, Reporting/Data/Technology, and Marketing/Social Media.

All positions have been filled for the 2023-2024 Academic Year, please check back in the spring for openings for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
 
 
Marketing Intern

This role will primarily focus on Marketing responsibilities.

Responsibilities
    Marketing (80% time) 
    • Social media content creation, posting, scheduling, and account monitoring. 
    • Content creation and editing for print and digital marketing collateral. 
    • Video content production (Adobe Rush, Premiere, and/or Canva provided). 
    • Website and social media analytics monitoring. 
    • Promote CaPS and Events through tabling, personal social media, and word of mouth. 
    Operations (20% time) 
    • Support Handshake employer and job posting approvals in accordance with CaPS Recruiting Policies. 
    • Serve as the first face of the office for guests and students checking in to Interview Rooms.  
    • Maintain the reception area in Hood House. 
    • Varied additional support for CaPS staff as assigned on an ongoing basis. 
    Role Specific Requirement
    • Creative eye for graphic design with some experience in Canva and Adobe Illustrator/InDesign/Photoshop/Premiere (tools provided). 
    Operations Intern

    This role will primarily focus on Employer Relations and Operations.

    Responsibilities 
    Employer Relations (85% Time)
    • Approve Handshake employer accounts and job positions in accordance with CaPS Recruiting Policies daily. 
    • Research and vet new employers and job positions. 
    • Conduct event and employer relations best practices research. 
    • Field employer questions and concerns via phone, email or in-person. 
    • Support any on-campus or virtual interviews. 
    Operations (15% Time)
    • Track and deposit payments and checks. 
    • Maintain and organize supply inventory management and office maintenance.  
    Shared Requirements
    • Strong attention to detail in understanding and following policies. 
    • Comfortable making decisions independently following training and onboarding. 
    • Experience utilizing and understanding Handshake.  
    • Comfortable with some repetitive clerical/data work.  
    • Familiarity with the university’s technology systems. 
    • Experience with the full Microsoft Office Suite. 
    • Excellent verbal & written communication skills. 
    • Ability to work fast & meet flexible deadlines. 
    • Must be a good listener and able to stay organized with multiple projects. 
    • 3-hour shift availability and occasional evening availability. 
    • Applicants must be in good academic and social (i.e. no record of misconduct) standing. Violation of University rules and/or policies may result in termination from this position. 
    Data Entry and Technology Administration Intern

    This role will primarily focus on technology and data management. 

    Responsibilities 
    Technology Administration 15%  
    • Approve Handshake account requests.
    • Create new Handshake administrative user accounts.
    • Update and audit fields across all CaPS technology platforms.
    • Create non-CaPS career events in Handshake.
    Data Entry 85%  
    • Enter employer information in Salesforce, our employer relationship management platform.
    • Clean and audit information in Salesforce and other CaPS technology platforms.
    • Conduct data collection with campus contacts, partners, and companies via surveys or email.
    Requirements  
    • Strong attention to detail.

    • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
    • Ability to work fast & meet flexible deadlines.
    • Must be a good listener and able to stay organized with multiple projects.
    • 3-hour shift availability.

    CaPS Ambassador

    The Career and Professional Success (CaPS) Ambassador Program is composed of driven, proactive students who care for the wellbeing of all Wildcats. CaPS Ambassadors not only represent the CaPS team, but they serve as extensions of the CaPS brand, services, and career technology. All CaPS Ambassadors will receive training that covers resumes (college-specific language, formatting, feedback, VMock), professional profiles (LinkedIn, Wildcat Connections, and Handshake), and presentation skills, as well as take part in weekly professional development exercises to foster personal growth.

    Students must be able to commit to 6-8 hours per week in the fall and spring semesters and at least two of the following shifts:

    • 12:45 - 3:00 pm on Mondays
    • 12:45 - 3:00 pm on Tuesdays
    • 12:45 - 3:00 pm on Wednesdays
    Responsibilities
    Drop-In Hours
    • Provide brief (10-minute) reviews of student resumes and professional profiles (Handshake, LinkedIn, Wildcat Connections) within assigned college
    • Complete CaPS projects as assigned during Drop-In Hours when not meeting with students
    • Reinforce and provide instruction for use of CaPS technology (Handshake, VMock, Wildcat Connections, etc.)
    • Provide referrals as needed (CaPS support, Academic Advising)
    • Drop-Ins room preparation (open Handshake kiosk, signage, workspace setup)

    Note: Responsibilities during Drop-In Hours are subject to change depending on assigned college.

     

    Event Support & Promotion
    • Promote CaPS services and events through tabling, social media, and word of mouth 
    • Assist CaPS staff on major event days (as your academic schedule permits)
    • Additional projects assigned throughout the semester by CaPS staff (during work hours)
    Presentations
    • Deliver engaging, pre-made CaPS presentations (approximately 30-45 minutes) to residence halls and/or student organizations upon request (2-3 presentations per semester)
    Requirements  
    • 1-year+ experience in writing professional correspondence to external customers.
    • Experience manipulating data with formulas and filters (on the job or in class).
    • Aptitude for technology.
    • Excellent verbal & written communication skills. 
    • Must be a good listener and able to stay organized with multiple projects. 
    • 3-hour shift availability and occasional evening availability.
