Application to Graduate & Degree Conferral

Graduating from UNH requires applying to graduate and registering for commencement-two separate steps with important information to follow.

ON THIS PAGE

Commencement (Ceremony in May)

The annual UNH commencement ceremony takes place in May. Students must be within 8 credits of completing degree requirements to participate in commencement. If not within 8 credits, students may petition home college dean for permission to participate.

For honor cords, cap and gown orders, tickets, diploma covers, and to register for the commencement ceremony contact University Ceremonies and Events. Diploma covers are not a replacement for graduate student’s official degree.

Graduation (Degree Conferral/Certification)

The Office of the Registrar processes student's application to graduate and certifies completion of degree requirements. The degree conferral is the actual posting of a student’s degree to the transcript and is the university’s official seal of approval for graduation.

Students who have not completed all academic obligations and filed an intent to graduate will not receive a degree, regardless of walking in the commencement ceremony. Incomplete grades in the final semester will prevent graduation.

Graduation Degree Conferral Dates

The University of New Hampshire offers three dates for students to graduate. Students applying for graduation degree conferral in May can also request to participate in the commencement ceremony.

  •   May (date corresponds with the Commencement Ceremony)
  •   September 1 (no ceremony)
  •   December 31 (no ceremony)

Graduation Application Deadlines

Students must complete coursework and receive grades by the selected graduation application date. Incomplete grades in the final semester will prevent graduation.
