Schedules at a Glance 

Below are broad summaries of the Orientation experiences offered for New Students and Parents & Families. Students should expect to participate in both small and large group activities, giving them the opportunity to connect with peers from within and beyond their colleges, while Families should expect and informative day of learning about UNH and the role they can play in their students time at UNH.
The final schedules will be released in May, but Check-in and Check-out times are accurate and will not change.

Check- In
  • 5:00PM - 6:30PM- Check-In for overnight participants at the Upper and Lower Quad Residential Area
Evening Activities 
  • Dinner in the dining hall 
  • Activities in the Hamel Recreation Center 
  • Social events in Residence Halls 
Overnight
  • Get a good night's sleep in preparation for an exciting day two!

Check-In 
  • 8:00AM - 9:00AM Check-In for 1 day participants at the Whittemore Center
Morning Sessions 
  • University Welcome
  • Group time with Orientation Group and Leader
  • Academic College Session with course registration
Lunch 
  • Enjoy lunch at Holloway Commons 
  • Open-time activities (ex: complete finger scanning, checkout student org display, visit the bookstore)
Afternoon Sessions
  • Introductions to life at UNH
  • Return to Academic Colleges to review Fall course schedule and learn more about the Academic experience
Become the Roar!
  • Participate in one of UNH's beloved traditions of walking under the Thompson Hall arches to celebrate becoming a Wildcat

Morning Session

  • Introduction to supporting your students success

Lunch

  • Enjoy lunch at Holloway Commons (free of cost)
Afternoon Sessions
  • Hear from student Services about the financial aid and billing processes
  • Hear from current UNH students about their experiences as a Wildcat
  • Meet with your students academic college
  • Explore various parts of campus
Become the Roar!
  • Cheer on your student as they "officially become a Wildcat" at UNH's beloved tradition of Become the Roar! 

Parking

We ask that all students and guests park in the specified parking lots on campus. There will be staff at these lots to direct you towards check-in.

Students and Guests parking overnight should park in the Campus Crossing Visitor Lot. No payment or code will be needed for this lot during Orientation.

Location: Mill Road across from the Durham Market Place plaza (set GPS for 8 Mill Road). 
 

We have allocated the parking lots closest to the Orientation Check-in and Welcome events. Please read the information below closely so that you go to the correct parking lot each day.

  • Guests dropping off their students and/or attending the Parent & Family Reception on Night 1 of their Orientation Session
    B-lot on McDaniel Drive
    Check-in at Quad Way and Reception in Philbrook Dining Hall
  • ​​​Students and Guests coming for the 1-day Orientation
    A-lot on Gables Way
    Check-in and Welcome at Whittemore Center Arena

Accessible parking is available in all campus parking lots except A-lot, West Edge, and Mast Road lots. Participants with a disability placard are able to use any of these spots on campus.

Accommodations

When registering for New Student Orientation, students are prompted to indicate whether they plan to attend an Overnight or One-Day Orientation program. Those attending the overnight session are able to register for a night in an on-campus residence hall. There is no additional Orientation cost for students staying on-campus.

Rooms and roommates for Orientation are assigned randomly. We are unable to take roommate requests. If you have questions or concerns about your room assignment please email new.student@unh.edu

Students will need to bring bedding for their overnight stay.

All guests attending Parent & family Orientation are invited to spend a night in one of UNH’s Residence Halls. Guest accommodations have a fee and are separate from student accommodations which are free of charge. Parent and Family member are not permitted to spend the night in their students assigned room at Orientation.
Time: Check-In 5:00PM - 6:30PM on Day 1 of your Orientation

Check-Out 5:00PM on Day 2 of your Orientation
Location: Mills Hall
Cost: Single Occupancy- guest would be the only person in the room. Shared bathroom with other Orientation participants applies.
($61.50/person)

Double Occupancy- guest will share room. If you are a party of two attending Orientation, you must register BOTH guests for double-occupancy as cost is per person. ($54.50/person)

Meals

All student meals that occur during Orientation are included and have no additional cost. 

  • Overnight Orientation includes 1 Dinner, 1 Breakfast, and 1 Lunch
  • One-day Orientation includes 1 Lunch

Guests attending Parent & Family Orientation are provided Lunch free of charge. Guests hoping to attend the Parent & family Welcome Reception or Dinner or Breakfast on campus during their sessions should pre-purchase additional meal tickets if they would like .
