Dear Students,
As the academic year begins, we are writing to share important information about student rights, responsibilities, university policies, and required annual notices. Please take time to review the information and links below. These resources explain the standards that apply to students, the offices available to support you, and information the University is required to make available each year.
Student Rights, Rules and Responsibilities
The 2026-27 Student Rights, Rules and Responsibilities Handbook is available online. The “SRRR” is the University’s official source for the Student Code of Conduct, key student policies, and expected standards of behavior. The Office of Community Standards serves as a central resource for questions about student policies and reporting issues and concerns. Some important policy changes that happened this year through working with students and stakeholders include:
The Student Organizations Policy has been updated with clearer expectations around recognition and the privileges afforded to recognized groups.
The University policy on developing and updating policies has been updated to provide clearer expectations around updating policies and specified lines of responsibility and authority.
Several provisions related to attendance and military accommodations have been updated, including required flexibility for court appearances and clearer tuition-refund expectations for qualifying military leaves of absence. The policy has also been re-organized for better clarity.
The definition of Non-Consensual Sexual Contact in the University’s Sexual Misconduct Policy has been updated due to updated guidance from the Federal Government.
The Service Animal Policy has been updated with a new definition of Emotional Support Animal based on updated guidance from the Federal Government.

Civil Rights, Equity, Title IX, and Accessibility
The Civil Rights & Equity Office is responsible for oversight of the University’s compliance efforts related to equal employment opportunity, Title IX, disability laws and regulations, religious accommodations, pregnancy modifications and accommodations, and bias response.

Students may report discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, bias, hate crimes, or retaliation, and may request religious accommodations or pregnancy modifications, through the Civil Rights & Equity Office website. The CREO website also includes links to UNH’s key policies that the office oversees.
Student Consumer Information
Federal law requires colleges and universities participating in federal student aid programs to make certain institutional and financial aid information available to students and the public. UNH maintains this information on the Student Consumer Information website.
The Student Consumer Information page includes information about computer use and file sharing, copyright infringement policies and sanctions, and penalties for violations of federal copyright law. Students are reminded that unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material, including unauthorized peer-to-peer file sharing, may subject them to civil and criminal liabilities.
This site also includes information about financial aid, cost of attendance, accreditation, academic programs, transfer credit, disability services, refund and withdrawal policies, textbook information, student outcomes, intercollegiate athletics, and related institutional disclosures.
Privacy of Student Records
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act provides students with certain rights regarding their education records, including the right to inspect and review records, request amendment of records, consent to certain disclosures, and file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education. UNH’s annual FERPA notice and related information are available here.
