Registration is closed for PrOVES 2019. If you are a first-year student looking to get involved in community service at UNH, visit the Civic & Community Engagement website here.
PrOVES is a program focused on helping incoming first-year students make the transition from high school to college. Through direct service and social justice education, our mission is to help participants develop an on-campus support system based in service to others and commitment to community.
Our goals are:
- To facilitate the transition from high school to UNH
- To help participants become part of a community on campus
- To develop participants’ sense of civic responsibility
- To meet community needs off-campus
Since 2001, PrOVES has provided an opportunity for service-oriented students to learn more about the local community. Participants arrive on the Sunday before opening weekend and spend the week getting to know one another while volunteering at various sites throughout the community.
Led by upperclass PrOVES staff, “ PrOVERs ” spend the week serving with local organizations and providing valuable service while learning about the Greater Seacoast area. Service activities include working at historic sites, maintaining trails on the Great Bay and making arts and crafts with residents at a local nursing home.
Evening adventures include a campus-wide scavenger hunt, outdoor team building activities, and an open-mic talent show.
PrOVES participants move into their residence halls early, learn about campus activities and resources, and form friendships that last through their four years at UNH and beyond.
A registration fee of $325 covers all program costs such as early move in, housing, meals, site transportation, supplies, and PrOVES t-shirts.
