Meditation CD for Students
Beginning in September, 2006, UNH Health Services will be offering students one more tool to be and stay healthy: Meditation: Reflections for Mind, Body and Spirit, a mediation CD created for students who want to learn how to better care for themselves through meditative practice.
Funding for the project came from a generous grant through the UNH Parents' Association as well as UNH Health Services.
Eight types of meditation are included on the CD, with a beginner breath meditation, creative visualization and progressive muscle relaxation meditations, a body meditation, an eating meditation, a meditation to help with academic and athletic performance, and two different types of “metta” or lovingkindness meditations.
The project was a collaboration of many, including Health Services and Counseling Center Staff, musical recordings from well-known local musicians, and artwork donated from community artists.
The Medication CD insert also includes written information on getting better sleep, time management, tips for managing stress, and healthy campus resources.
Peter Welch, Wellness Educator/Counselor at UNH Health Services, envisioned the creation of the CD and managed its production. “I have seen many students over the years who could greatly benefit from learning how to meditate in managing the stress in their lives.”
The CD is available to UNH students free of charge at the Office of Health Education and Promotion, Health Services, Room 249. The CD is $10 for non-students.
