Cultural Stages Initiative Promotes World Cultures Through Drama and Dance

DURHAM, N.H. - As part of the 50th anniversary of the Paul Creative Arts Center, the University of New Hampshire announces a new project, "Cultural Stages: The Woodward International Drama and Dance Initiative." Comprised of an international playwright in residence program and the Woodward International Playwriting Prize, the initiative is designed to promote a greater understanding of world cultures through drama and dance. The project is funded by Ellis Woodward, UNH Class of '74.

UNH Space Science Center to Build Four Instruments for New Weather Satellites

DURHAM, N.H. - Scientists, engineers, and students from the University of New Hampshire's Space Science Center (SSC) recently saw a fourfold increase in their role to provide a critical instrument onboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) third-generation weather satellites currently under construction.

With the increase comes an additional $3 million in funding for a project total of $10.6 million under NOAA's Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Program.

UNH Institute on Disability Receives $4.25M from Dept. of Education

DURHAM, N.H. - The Institute on Disability (IOD) at the University of New Hampshire has been awarded a five-year, $4.25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) to study and measure the impact of national policies and programs on the employment of people with disabilities.

New Hampshire Concerned About Afghanistan

DURHAM, NH -- New Hampshire residents are pessimistic about the progress of the war in Afghanistan. Approval of the Obama administration's handling of the war in Iraq has improved.

These findings are based on the latest WMUR Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center. Five hundred fifteen (515) randomly selected New Hampshire adults were interviewed by telephone between Sept. 23 and Sept. 29, 2010. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4.3 percent.

UNH Crimes Against Children Research Center Awarded $400K To Investigate Experiences of Child Crime Victims

DURHAM, N.H. - The Crimes against Children Research Center of the University of New Hampshire has been awarded $400,572 from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to research the experiences of children and caregivers who have been exposed to family violence in interacting with the social services staff and law enforcement. The grant was part of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder's new Defending Childhood Initiative and one of only two grants awarded by NIJ to address issues relating to children's witnessing family violence. 

UNH Awarded $487K from NASA for H.S. Climate Change Curriculum

DURHAM, N.H. --As part of a growing national effort to get teachers and students schooled in the fundamental elements of climate change, researchers from the University of New Hampshire's Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space (EOS) have been awarded a $487,000 two-year grant from the National Aeronautic and Space Administration's (NASA) Global Climate Change Education Program (GCCE).

NH Consumer Confidence Still Low
