New UNH Course Turns Fly Fishing into an Academic Adventure
Submitted by emantz on Thu, 09/16/2010 - 12:00amDURHAM, N.H. - From learning about literature, art, and popular culture to biology, environmentalism, and business, students at the University of New Hampshire this fall have the opportunity to explore what it means to be an American through the lens of a fly fisherman.
The new elective course, "Fly Fishing and the American Experience," is taught by professor Bill Ross and will introduce students to a wide range of American authors, from Ernest Hemingway and Norman Maclean to Nick Lyons, Tom McGuane and John Gierach.

And when it comes to getting canned for poor performance, CEOs with degrees from the nation's most prestigious schools are no safer than the average CEO, according to new research from the University of New Hampshire.
UNH Eats Local at Sixth Annual Harvest Feast Sept. 22

The popular and award-winning event, which is open to the public, serves breakfast at Stillings Marketplace (7:15 - 10 a.m.), lunch at Elements at Philbrook Hall (11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.), and dinner at Holloway Commons (4:30 - 9 p.m.), all on the UNH campus in Durham. The Local Harvest Feast is offered to all students on the UNH meal plan as well as to the general public (breakfast $9, lunch $12, dinner $16, plus tax).

The $200,000 grant was funded through the National Science Foundation's (NSF) RAPID program for quick-response research on natural human-caused disasters and similar unanticipated events.

Each year, the English Department brings prominent writers of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction to UNH to read from their work in public presentations and, in most cases, to spend in-class time with students during the day.
