DURHAM, N.H.—The University of New Hampshire has partnered with the NH Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to provide COVID-19 testing for 30 long term care facilities and shelters throughout the state. The expanded testing began in late December and to date more than 3,000 tests have been processed in addition to the university’s ongoing testing of its community.

DURHAM, N.H.— Scientists from the University of New Hampshire have received a five-year, $425,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to plan logistics for retrieving environmental samples in ice that could unlock the secrets of Earth’s last warm period and help with future climate change projections.

WHAT: The University of New Hampshire will host a virtual panel discussion about COVID-19 testing with four schools that successfully launched university-wide programs. Panelists from the University of New Hampshire, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Illinois and Purdue University will discuss the initiatives that helped to keep their campuses open for in-person learning while protecting their communities from COVID-19.

DURHAM, N.H.—The University of New Hampshire joins dozens of the nation’s leading research institutions in the Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII), a $111 million public-private partnership led by the University of Texas at San Antonio. CyManII is a five-year cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) that aggregates the most advanced institutions researching smart and advanced manufacturing, secure automation and supply chains, workforce development and cybersecurity.

DURHAM, N.H.— Three faculty members at the University of New Hampshire are being recognized for their body of work and have been chosen as this year’s fellows for two internationally respected science organizations. William McDowell, environmental science professor, and Larry Mayer, director of the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping, have both been named 2020 fellows of the American Geophysical Union (AGU). Serita Frey, natural resources and environment professor, has been named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

DURHAM, N.H.—Anne Finucane, vice chairman at Bank of America and chairman of the board, Bank of America Europe, has been named the 2020 Social Innovator of the Year by the University of New Hampshire. A 1974 graduate of UNH, Finucane has regularly been named to Forbes’ and Fortune’s Most Powerful Women lists, along with American Banker’s 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking. She is responsible for leading Bank of America’s environmental, social, governance (ESG) and public policy efforts.

DURHAM, N.H.—Nine teams were selected from a field of 60 teams comprised of 121 college students from across the state to advance to the final round of the 2020 New Hampshire Social Venture Innovation Challenge (SVIC). The finalists will compete virtually for $15,000 in cash prizes Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Learn about these teams and their ideas in these videos.

DURHAM, N.H.—The University of New Hampshire will offer a virtual grant training workshop Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. New Hampshire small businesses and start-ups with less than 500 employees. The workshop is free but registration is required.
