UNH Researchers Release Child Maltreatment Report Showing Mixed Trends

DURHAM, N.H.— A new report from the University of New Hampshire’s Crimes against Children Research Center (CCRC), using data collected by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, showed a marked increase in the share of child maltreatment cases resulting in fatalities but also declines in physical abuse and neglect in 2019.

University of New Hampshire Announces December 2020 Graduates

The following students graduated from the University of New Hampshire in December 2020. Students who received the honor of summa cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.85-4.0; students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.65-3.84; and students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.50-3.64. Students are only graduated after the Registrar’s Office has certified that all degree requirements have been successfully completed.

UNH Launches New Entrepreneurial Student Fellowship with Alum Support

DURHAM, N.H.—Sophomores at the University of New Hampshire will have the opportunity to participate in an innovative student fellowship through the Peter T. Paul Entrepreneurship Center (ECenter). The Shaw Innovation Explorers Program was launched with gifts from David Evans Shaw ’73, CEO of Black Point Group; John Shaw, CEO of Itaconix; and the Shaw family. The program will kick off at the start of the fall semester.

NH SBDC Announces Advisory Board to Represent Needs of All Small Businesses

DURHAM, N.H.—In the spirit of its ongoing commitment to serve as a trusted resource for small businesses—offering guidance, assurance and straight answers—the NH Small Business Development Center has announced new members of its advisory board to represent the diversity of the state and the demand for assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The advisory board members are our ambassadors, our eyes and ears across the state,” said Liz Gray, state director of the NH SBDC.

UNH Researchers Discover New Inhibitor Drug Combination for Rare Form of Cancer

DURHAM, N.H.— Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM), a rare form of lymphoma, does not have any known cure and only one FDA-approved treatment making it challenging to treat patients. Researchers at the University of New Hampshire took the novel approach of targeting specific cell proteins that control DNA information using inhibitors, or drugs, that were effective in reducing the growth of the cancer cells and when combined with a third drug were even more successful in killing the WM cancer cells which could lead to more treatment options.
