Sustainability Institute

UNH’s Sustainability Institute is a gateway for you to make impact on campus and in local communities through internships, fellowships, hands on experiences and volunteering.

  • students working in a garden

You have the unique opportunity to shape UNH’s practices and make an impact on our road to continual improvement. We take sustainability seriously; it’s embedded in all we do, which means the campus is a powerful living learning lab. Students were integral in helping UNH become Bee Campus certified.

  • students at a round table eating ice cream and talking

Students proposed the idea of UNH becoming a Fair Trade campus and worked collaboratively with leaders, dining and other departments to make it happen.

  • students and staff gathered outside around a stormwater drain in a grassy area

As an intern, you could help UNH ensure our ecosystems and waterways remain healthy, working closely with the UNH Stormwater Center to track and analyze data and educate the campus community on sustainable practices.

  • Wildcat mascot looks at clothing on a rack

Waste is problem we all face! We’re working hard to creatively find ways to reduce our waste AND create less to begin with. UNH Trash 2 Treasure is student-created and student-powered and allows you to purchase gently used items at the fall back-to-school sale, and donate unwanted items in spring when moving out. Student leaders are gaining vital professional skills running the T2T and promoting a circular economy on campus!

  • student at a table display that talks about doing laundry sustainably

You could be a leader in your residence hall by serving as a Sustainability Advocate. Advocates plan fun events that educate peers on sustainable practices and work to help life in the halls be more sustainable. These are just a few ways students have made lasting impact. How will you?
