a core element of the Honors College experience
Students can choose courses ranging from special Honors sections of introductory-level Discovery courses, create their own Honors experience within regular courses, or, in some cases, take graduate courses.
Honors Discovery Courses
Honors students have the opportunity to fulfill their Discovery requirements with a special menu of engaging courses, which focus on discussion and hands-on learning.
Each course counts as 4 Honors Units.
Designated Honors Courses
Students may work with their professors to design Honors-level curricula within general courses for a more enriching experience.
Designated Honors courses count for 2 Honors Units.
Graduate-Level Courses
Unless they have been admitted to a graduate program, undergraduate students cannot enroll in 800-900 level courses. Professors will sometimes permit an undergraduate student to join a graduate course by creating an independent study, or allowing the student to register for another undergraduate course that meets at the same place and time. Students can use the Honors Designation process on these courses to earn 2 Honors Units.
For students enrolled in graduate programs (such as accelerated master’s or 3+3 programs), courses fulfilling graduate degree requirements cannot also earn Honors Units.
