There aren’t a lot of white people in the Bronx, Santos says. At UNH, it is just the opposite. But it wasn’t the lack of a diverse population that she found challenging; it was the small things, like figures of speech and expressions.
Her plan to become a doctor is rooted in her experience growing up in the Dominican Republic where access to medical care is limited.
