Learn to Swim: Summer Evening Group Lessons

Learn to Swim: Evening Group Swim Lessons - Summer 2026

Lessons are expected to open for enrollment on Wednesday, May 6.

UNH Campus Recreation offers Summer Evening Group Swim Lessons for kids ages 3-13 in one 4-week session (8 lessons) and one 3-week session (6 lessons). Lessons are held Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 5:35pm or 6:15pm. Full payment is required at the time of enrollment.

These lessons utilize the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum & level system from levels 1-6. Lessons are focused on life saving skills and becoming comfortable in an aquatic environment in the lower levels, and work up to stroke development and swim team preparation in the upper levels.

You will be asked to indicate a Swim Level when completing the CampDoc registration questions (see below for more information on CampDoc). Pre-school lessons are for ages 3-4; youth lessons are for ages 5-13. If you are unsure what your child's Swim Level is, select "Unsure” or consult the Swim Level Chart. All swimmers are observed on the first day of lessons and may be moved if the level chosen is not appropriate for the swimmer's ability.

In the event of cancellation due to inclement weather, a make-up session will be scheduled. Parents/guardians will be notified via email if a lesson is canceled and rescheduled due to inclement weather.

All summer lessons are held at the UNH Outdoor Pool. Access to the pool is from the front entrance of the Hamel Recreation Center (HRC), 5 Edgewood Rd, Durham NH. Pool users must check in with welcome center staff upon entering the HRC.

Review the blocks below for important information and instructions on How to Enroll, CampDoc, Outdoor Pool Parking Information, and Travel.

Participation in Swim Lessons does not include admission to the pool for the day. Any family member(s) not taking a lesson who wish to swim and a child enrolled in a lesson who wishes to swim before or after the lesson must have a pool membership or pay the daily fee. For more information, including membership/pass fees, parking information and pool policies: UNH Outdoor Pool

To request a Drop or Transfer from a Youth Program, contact the program manager (info below). Please include the full name of the participant and clearly state the camp and session(s) to be adjusted. UNH Campus Recreation does not offer refunds for Swim Lessons, including for missed lessons.

Click the '+' on the registration block(s) to enroll. Review the Online Registration Instructions before enrolling for the best outcome. This includes instructions for creating a Family or Student/Individual account.

Family Accounts are recommended for enrolling multiple children from one family in any UNH Youth Program. If you already have an account in our system, you will be asked to log into either a Family or Student Account after adding the program to your shopping cart. Be sure to use the username and password for the type of account you wish to log into. We recommend attempting to log into the Student or Family account before enrollment opens as this will minimize difficulty and time while enrolling. Email youth.programs@unh.edu if you require assistance recovering your account information. Do not create a new account if you have one already.

If you don't have an account already, you can set up an account at any time, even before you begin the registration process. If creating a student account, the account profile should be in the name of the participating student, but the email should be that of a parent/guardian. Review the Online Registration Instructions before creating a new account.

UNH has partnered with CampDoc to quicken the enrollment process. Enrollments and payments are done here through our current enrollment system, but no registration questions will be required at that time. Within a few days of enrolling, the email provided in the student or family account will receive an email prompting completion of the registration questions.

Please note that overnight camp roommate requests are done during the CampDoc process, not at the time of enrollment.

It is important that a parent/guardian responds to the CampDoc email and completes the registration questions promptly. Families who enrolled a child in a UNH Youth Program in Summer 2023 or after will likely already have a CampDoc account. Even if the student already has a CampDoc account, a parent/guardian should log into the student's account each time they enroll in a program to review and complete any necessary questions for a program or year.

All registration questions must be 100% complete in CampDoc before a student can attend a youth program.

For more information, including the CampDoc Support Line, review our CampDoc page.
