Starting this fall, a new transfer agreement will connect the Nashua Community College criminal justice students with the homeland security bachelor’s degree program at UNH. 

As part of an effort to encourage more young women to choose careers in technology, the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) and University of New Hampshire at Manchester will recognize 18 high school students and one educator for their accomplishments and aspirations in computing and technology. The award event will be held at UNH Manchester on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will feature a keynote address by Middlebury College Computer Science Professor Amy Briggs.

Mihaela Sabin, associate professor and coordinator of computing technology at UNH Manchester, will be honored as TechEducator of the Year at the TechWomen|TechGirls annual awards luncheon on April 5.

Patrick Tufts, president and CEO of Granite United Way, has been an advocate for education, health and economic stability in New Hampshire communities for more than a decade. For his outstanding achievements, service and contributions to New Hampshire, he will be recognized with the 2017 Granite State Award at UNH Manchester’s commencement ceremony on May 18.

Lizz Maurais ’19 is set to graduate from UNH Manchester this May, a year earlier than she initially expected. But in just three years, the biotechnology major has earned multiple research awards, examined pancreatic cancer cells, researched microbial genomics and spent 10 weeks at a laboratory in California.

On March 22, representatives from Hubbell joined University of New Hampshire students, faculty and staff at UNH Manchester to present a $50,000 donation on behalf of the Hubbell Foundation. The funds will support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) initiatives at the University’s Durham and Manchester campuses.
