CARES Act – The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act is federal legislation that provides financial support to individuals and organizations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, including the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). One part of this federal program provides emergency grants to undergraduate and graduate students for unexpected expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The University of New Hampshire applied for and was awarded funds from the federal CARES Act. UNH provided, and continues to provide, emergency grants to eligible students. Emergency grants are between $250 and $700. All funds were processed through the student’s billing account as a refund. More information about CARES Act emergency grants is available on the financial aid website. Through August 20, 2020, UNH distributed $3,817,916 to 7,686 students.
The Financial Aid Office is offering the same emergency grant assistance to new UNH students on all three campuses: Concord, Durham and Manchester. Eligible students request CARES Act emergency grant assistance via a short application on Webcat.
We thank both the Financial Aid and Business Services staff, along with many campus partners who encourage eligible students to apply, for helping students in need during this challenging time.
