UNH uses three types of postdoctoral appointments:
- Postdoctoral Research or Teaching Associate
- NIH Postdoctoral Trainee
- Postdoctoral Fellow
Postdoctoral appointees are pre-professionals who hold the Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and come to the University for a limited period under the guidance of a University of New Hampshire faculty mentor to further their professional development by engaging in independent or original research or teaching, or an advanced training program.

Postdoctoral appointees are eligible for limited Fringe benefits (medical/dental/eye care) and partipation in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA). The Personal and Sick Leave link above provides detail on such items as retirement, holidays, leave accrual and usage.
Please note that Postdoctoral appointees are NOT eligible for the USNH Tuition Benefits for themselves, spouse or dependents.
Postdoctoral appointees will be contacted by our HR Benefits team after being hired to coordinate a one on one meeting to review and enroll in their eligible core benefits.
