UNH uses three types of postdoctoral appointments:
- Postdoctoral Research or Teaching Associate
- NIH Postdoctoral Trainee
- Postdoctoral Fellow.
Postdoctoral appointees are pre-professionals who hold the Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and come to the University for a limited period under the guidance of a University of New Hampshire faculty mentor to further their professional development by engaging in independent or original research or teaching, or an advanced training program.
- UNH Policy on Postdoctoral Appointments
- Postdoctoral Appointment Documents (postdoctoral appointment offer letters & postdoctoral leave records form)
Postdoctoral appointees are eligible for limited Fringe benefits (medical/dental/eye care) and partipation in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA). There is further detail on such items as retirement, holidays, leave accrual and usage in the UNH Policy link below. Please note that Postdoctoral appointees are NOT eligible for the USNH Tuition Benefits for themselves, spouse or dependents.
Postdoctoral appointees will receive UNH Welcome letter via e-mail from HR Benefits, advising them to contact our Benefits Team at 862-0504 to schedule a one-on-one appointment to review and enroll in their eligible core benefits. It will also direct them to the UNH new hire orientation page where they will find links to their benefits enrollment information and their scheduled date to attend the UNH orientation program - Discover YOUR UNH, approximately 30-45 days after their start date.
