Partner Program Education Abroad Insurance Coverage Recommendations

Partner Programs are managed by professional third-party providers or universities abroad. The majority of these providers offer insurance coverage and include it in their program fees, although there are a few that charge extra or require students to find and purchase coverage on their own.

Students should check with their program provider to learn about insurance coverage options. This information is typically found on the Partner Program’s website in the health and safety section. If you cannot find the information online, contact your program provider. Insurance plans should be reviewed carefully to understand all benefits and exclusions.

Listed below are benefits that should be included in any travelers medical and security plan:

  • Sickness & accident medical expenses

  • Mental health expenses

  • Pre-existing conditions covered

  • Emergency dental

  • Medical evacuation

  • Repatriation of mortal remains

  • Natural disaster evacuation

  • Political evacuation

  • Visit by family member or friend due to hospitalization or felonious assault

Purchasing Options

  • UNH recommends that all travelers purchase trip Cancel For Any Reason/Interrupt For Any Reason coverage, which may include travelers medical and security coverage or allow travelers to add it.

    • Follow the link above to build a customized quote based on your travel plans and how much of the cost you want to insure.

    • View plan details and add the benefits you want.

    • In order to get the “for any reason coverage,” the plan must be purchased within 15 days of the initial trip payment (e.g., first deposit).

  • Travelers also may purchase insurance coverage as a consumer product directly from International SOS. You may include UNH’s membership number (11BCAS000009) to get a discount.

  • iNext offers several plans developed for educational travel.

  • Search for websites that organize and compare different products for global nomad or long-term travelers.

Additional Coverage

Many travelers’ medical/security insurance do not include benefits for personal belongings or personal liability. If you want these types of coverage, you will need to read the fine print of potential plans. Belongings coverage may be included in renters' insurance, homeowners insurance, or the credit card used to pay for the trip. These options also may be available for purchase at the Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption link above.
