The Office of Community, Civil Rights, and Compliance facilitates individual and community growth and works to build an inclusive, respectful, and equitable living and learning environment. We encourage our campus and community partners to understand themselves and others through self-reflection and collaborative work. Our programs and practices are grounded in anti-discrimination and anti-racism and build awareness, promote access and belonging, and cultivate opportunities for all to flourish across UNH's three campuses.

Nadine Petty

Nadine Petty, Ph.D.

Associate Vice President for Community, Civil Rights, and Compliance

Having spent her early formative years in Jamaica, Dr. Nadine Petty comes to UNH with an international lens. Dr. Petty has roughly 30 years of experience in educational settings, including over 20 years in higher education. For the majority of her personal life and professional career, she has devoted herself to a wide-range of academic and service endeavors including teaching cultural ethnography in college classrooms, serving on and leading various diversity-related committees and boards, creating and strengthening services for individuals with underserved and underrepresented identities, engaging in various institutional and district-level policy and practice reviews, engaging state representatives on compliance and community needs, and providing numerous interactive workshops and trainings to students, employees, and community members.

Prior to arriving at UNH, Dr. Petty served as Executive Director of the Center for Diversity and Enrichment at the University of Iowa, where she led a large team of staff dedicated to student success. Although she has been immersed in diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and compliance work for many years, Dr. Petty believes she has only begun to scratch the surface of available knowledge and research, viewing herself as a lifelong learner and devotee.

Dr. Petty enjoys working with her team in the Office of Community, Civil Rights, and Compliance and in the Civil Rights and Equity Office to promote inclusive excellence and provide needed education and support for faculty, staff, students, and others within the state of New Hampshire. She says, "It's all about creating meaningful impact and leaving the world better than how we found it." It's important to her for UNH to continue developing its presence and identity as a highly informed, diverse, respectful, inclusive, and compassionate campus community where everyone can thrive, regardless of their backgrounds.

Campus Climate

UNH-administered a campus climate survey asking all students, staff, and faculty to share their perspectives on what it is like to live, learn and work at the university. UNH developed a list of action steps based on feedback received from this study.
