Sailing/Kayaking/Paddleboarding Week 6: July 31 - August 4
The UNH Community Sailing Centre (UNHCSC) offers an affordable sailing program for students ages 5-18 of any sailing ability, and also offers classes in kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. The primary goals are for kids to have fun on the water, make new friends, and build self confidence while learning skills that are enjoyed over a lifetime.
Classes focus on different skill levels and are offered weekly for 7 weeks. Classes are held at the UNHCSC on Mendums Pond in Barrington, NH. Students can enroll in any number of weeks.
Aside from learning or improving skills, classes also teach self-responsibility, safety around the water, and teamwork.
These activities are physical sports, and sailing is highly conceptual and students learn at different rates and in different ways. The program allows for these differences by helping kids master the requisite skills at their own pace.
Swim Test: Safety is first and foremost within all our Community Sailing Centre programs. Students under the age of 18 are required to pass a swim test at the start of each session. The test is a swim of 25 yards and treading water for 5 minutes. The Guppies test is done with life jackets on and is 15 yards swimming and 2 minutes treading water. Contact Diana Weidenbacker (diana.weidenbacker@unh.edu) if you have any questions about the swim test.
Students wear Lifejackets and PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) at all times while on the docks or in boats. Students in Guppies must provide their own PFD; all other classes can use those provided by the Sailing Centre. Closed-toe shoes must be worn at all times.
Details regarding drop off locations, times, and other information is sent to enrolled participants prior to the session start date from program staff.

Online Registration Instructions: please review before enrolling for the best outcome. Family Accounts are recommended for enrolling a child or children in any UNH youth program. Note: if you have an account in our system already, you will be asked to log into either a family or student account. Be sure you know which account you have and know your username and password. This will minimize difficulty and time while enrolling. Do not create a new account if you have one already.
New for Summer 2023!
Quicker enrollment process: Starting with summer 2023 youth programs, UNH is partnering with CampDoc for families to complete the registration questions. Enrollments and payments will still be done through our current system, but it will be a much more efficient process as youth program registration questions will not be answered at that time. Within a couple weeks of enrolling, families will receive an email prompting completion of the registration questions. For more information, review our “What’s New in 2023?” document.
Wait List: This program has a wait list option after reaching initial capacity. Wait lists are managed by program staff, which follow their own timelines and procedures. Movement typically occurs as other students drop from attending.
Once a session has reached max capacity, a wait list option will appear on the registration block on the right. Important: Enrolling on a wait list from a family account is not currently supported by our registration system. You must log into an individual student account to enroll on a wait list.
To Drop or Transfer: Email youth.programs@unh.edu and include the full name of the participant and clearly state the camp and session(s) to be dropped/changed. Please do so as soon as you are aware of any conflicts to allow a timely opportunity for another student. Review our summer youth program refund procedures.
UNH continues to have COVID-19 guidelines in place for youth programs: Current COVID-19 Guidelines
