New Report: Catholics More Supportive of Gay and Lesbian Rights than General Public, Other Christians

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholics are more supportive of gay and lesbian rights than the general public and other Christians, according to a new report released today. The new report, which is the most comprehensive portrait of Catholic attitudes on gay and lesbian issues assembled to date, also finds that 7-in-10 Catholics say that messages from America's places of worship contribute a lot (33 percent) or a little (37 percent) to higher rates of suicide among gay and lesbian youth.

New Book Chronicles N.H.'s Women's Sawmill of WWII

DURHAM, N.H. - In 1942, Turkey Pond, on the outskirts of Concord, was clogged with 12 million board-feet of white pine, downed in the devastating hurricane of 1938 and hauled to the pond for storage. With World War II in force and sawmill labor scarce, the U.S. Forest Service recruited an unlikely group to mill these logs into lumber for the war effort: a dozen or so women.

DURHAM, N.H. -- University officials were pleased to learn of the arrest of a man in connection with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Todd Walker, a sophomore at the University of New Hampshire and member of the football team. Walker, who was home on spring break, was killed during the early morning hours of Friday, March 18.

UNH Statement on Death of Student in Colorado

DURHAM, N.H. -- University officials were deeply saddened to learn of the death of 20-year-old Todd Walker, a sophomore in the Whittemore School of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire and a member of the UNH football team. Walker, who is from Edwards, Colo., was the victim of a fatal shooting in Boulder, Colorado, during the early morning hours of March 18. He was home on spring break.
