UNH Names Three NH Students Liberal Arts Trout Scholars

DURHAM, N.H. -- Three students in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of New Hampshire have been named the 2011 B. Thomas Trout Scholarship recipients. The students will receive scholarships to be used toward their study abroad program expenses in the 2011-12 academic year.

The 2011 B. Thomas Trout Scholarship recipients are Audrey Hansen, a political science major from Albany; Mary Ross, a French major from Weare; and John DeGennaro, an anthropology major from Ashland.

UNH to Host 12th Annual Undergraduate Research Conference April 25-30, 2011

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire's 12th annual Undergraduate Research Conference (URC) takes place April 25-30, 2011, featuring hundreds of UNH students from all academic disciplines presenting the results of their research, scholarship, engagement and creative works.

UNH Gourmet Dinner 'Harmonious Flavors' Set For April 29 and 30

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire will host six courses of modern, locally sourced cuisine inspired by the origins of musical genres at two Gourmet Dinners in April.

Organized by the hospitality management students at the Whittemore School of Business and Economics, "Harmonious Flavors" will be held on Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Stillings Hall, 20 Ballard St., beginning with wine and hors d'oeuvres at 6 p.m. with dinner to follow.

UNH Carsey Institute: Louisiana, Florida Residents Differ on Views of Long-Term Effects of Oil Spill One Year Later

DURHAM, N.H. - One year after the BP Deepwa­ter Horizon oil rig explosion on the Gulf Coast, new research from the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire shows that despite the roughly equivalent economic com­pensation, Louisiana and Florida residents differ in percep­tions about the current and long-term effects of the largest marine oil spill in U.S. history.

Angel Investor Market Rebounds in 2010, UNH Center for Venture Research Finds

DURHAM, N.H. - The 2010 angel investor market saw a robust increase in investment dollars following a considerable contraction in investment dollars in 2008 and 2009, according to the 2010 Angel Market Analysis released by the Center for Venture Research at the University of New Hampshire.

USNH Board of Trustees Rejects Fact-finder Report

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire announced today that the Executive Committee of the University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees voted Monday, April 11, 2011, to reject the fact-finder report regarding negotiations between the university and the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). The report was issued March 31 by John Cochran, the fact-finder jointly engaged by the two parties. In accordance with N.H. statute, the parties had 10 days to consider the report and decide upon it before its contents became public.

UNH Police Investigate Report of Stolen Vehicle from Campus Parking Lot

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Police Department is investigating the report of a stolen motor vehicle from a campus parking lot late Sunday night.

James M. Lee of Medford, Mass., reported that he parked his red 1994 Mercury Cougar with Massachusetts registration 82EC92 in the Alumni Center parking lot while visiting friends on Saturday, April 9, 2011. When he returned to his car Sunday night April 10, 2011, the car was missing.

UNH Police Investigate Injury to Concertgoer

DURHAM, N.H. - A female from Dracut, Mass., who attended the Wiz Khalifa concert at the Whittemore Center Arena Friday night, April 8, was found unconscious from what appears to be a fall from a retaining wall. The woman, who is not a University of New Hampshire student, was found behind the arena after the concert. She was transported to Wentworth Douglass Hospital. 

The University of New Hampshire Police Department is investigating the incident and encourages anyone with information to contact them at (603) 862-1427.

UNH Technician to Bike Across America for Affordable Housing

DURHAM, N.H. - The longest bike ride University of New Hampshire research technician and alumna Rachel Mixon '10 has ever taken was from Dover to the Seacoast, a distance of about 22 miles. On a bike that didn't change gears.

That doesn't exactly equate to the training it takes to bike nearly 3,000 miles but Mixon isn't deterred. Come May and for the following two months, Mixon will work her way to California with fellow volunteers for Bike and Build, a nonprofit group that organizes long-distance cycling trips to benefit affordable housing.
