UNH Seacoast Alumni Chapter Hosts Holiday Reception Dec. 14

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire Seacoast Alumni Chapter invites alumni and friends to its third annual Holiday Cocktail Reception Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle from 6-8 p.m.

UNH Economist: Weak Global, U.S. Economic Conditions Slowing New England Economic Growth and Recovery

DURHAM, N.H. - The New England states continue to experience slow growth and slow recovery of the jobs lost in the 2008 recession because of continued weakness in global and U.S. economic conditions. The region's economy is expected to grow slowly for the remainder of 2011 and 2012 and not to pick up much momentum and strength until well into 2013, according to Ross Gittell, James R. Carter Professor of Management at the University of New Hampshire.

UNH Honors Eight With Alumni Achievement Awards

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire Alumni Association held its annual Alumni Achievement Awards Ceremony Friday, October 28, 2011, during Homecoming Weekend. 

At a dinner in celebration of the occasion, UNH President Mark Huddleston welcomed the eight award recipients, along with their families, friends and fellow alumni, noting that UNH is thankful for the opportunity to recognize dedicated alumni—individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the UNH community, the state or the nation.

UNH Hosts National China Town Hall on Sino-American Relations Nov. 16

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire has been selected as one of only 50 sites in the country to host a national China Town Hall that will focus on China's rapid development and Sino-American relations, and will feature Zbigniew Brzezinski, former national security advisor and current counselor and trustee of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C.

UNH Student from Rollinsford Interns With NFL's Jaguars

DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire senior Caleb Couture's recent internship couldn't be further from the stereotype of photocopying and coffee-fetching. The athletic training major joined the Jacksonville Jaguars during their training camp (July 26 - Sept. 4, 2011) and worked alongside the NFL team's athletic training staff on and off the field.

"It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I learned a ton," says the Rollinsford native, son of Marc and Martha Couture.

Fundraising Book Fair Held to Benefit Seacoast Reads

DURHAM, N.H. - Seacoast Reads, a nationally recognized volunteer tutoring program that sends University of New Hampshire undergraduates into local elementary schools to tutor students in reading, has partnered with Barnes & Noble and UNH's Alpha Delta Phi Society for a fundraising book fair as the program struggles to survive financially.

W. Kelley Thomas directs UNH's Hubbard Center for Genome Studies, a leader in comparative and environmental genomics with a special emphasis on novel model species. Thomas is interested in using molecules to understand the relationships among organisms and between organisms and their environment. Increasing our understanding of the mechanisms of molecular change and developing a critical link between molecular and organismal evolution is a key component to my research programs.

Joint Investigation Leads to Drug Arrests at Suspended Fraternity

DURHAM, N.H. - Police arrested nine University of New Hampshire students early Sunday morning, Nov. 6, after an ongoing joint investigation by the Durham and UNH police departments into illegal drug activity at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on Main Street.

Two additional students were also arrested for disorderly conduct. All 11 are members of the fraternity, which was issued a five-year suspension by the university last month.

N.H. National Guard Major General Speaks at UNH CEO Forum Nov. 17

DURHAM, N.H. - Maj. Gen. William N. Reddel III, adjutant general of the New Hampshire National Guard, will discuss the history, mission, and future of the organization at the next University of New Hampshire CEO Forum Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011.

"The New Hampshire National Guard -- What You Should Know," begins at 8 a.m. in Huddleston Hall.
