UNH Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Focuses on the Politics of Wealth and Social Justice

DURHAM, N.H. - Social change activist Rev. Rosemary Bray McNatt, a former editor of the New York Times Review of Books and widely anthologized writer, will present the commemorative address during the University of New Hampshire's 22nd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, taking place Jan. 29-Feb. 2, 2012.

Events are free and open to the public.

UNH Center for Family Business Hosts Seminar on Successful Family Business Transitions Jan. 18

State-Funded Grants for Research Available for New Hampshire Companies

DURHAM, N.H. — The New Hampshire Innovation Research Center (NHIRC) is now soliciting letters of intent from New Hampshire companies for conducting research at New Hampshire-based colleges and universities (including Dartmouth and the University of New Hampshire).  A nonbinding letter of intent on company letterhead is due Friday, Jan. 27, 2012.

GIS Maps Available Online for Lamprey River Watershed

DURHAM, N.H. - New Hampshire Sea Grant has made available a new online tool for residents of the Lamprey River watershed who want information on land use in their communities. Available on the N.H. Sea Grant web site (http://seagrant.unh.edu/lampreyrwmaps.html), these maps provide details on cultural resources, conserved public land, and subwatersheds.

UNH Cooperative Extension Reorganizes in Response to State Funding Cut; Changes Will Continue to Provide Programs throughout the State

DURHAM, N.H. -- Cooperative Extension at the University of New Hampshire recently announced a series of changes to the program that will not only save money but continue to provide services to New Hampshire residents in a more efficient and effective way.

"This unique approach will give all 10 counties a greater choice in how to participate and sets the stage for a stronger program overall," said John Pike, dean and director of UNH Cooperative Extension (UNHCE).

Students Save More Than $12,000 in 2011 Energy Challenge

DURHAM, N.H. -- Since 2006 students have been competing in an annual Energy Challenge among the on-campus dorms and apartments. This year, the newly renamed UNH Unplugged 2011 Energy Challenge yielded a savings of more than 85,000 kWh, a reduction of more than 35 metric tons in carbon emissions. This is the equivalency of $12,000 in energy costs.

UNH Hires Head of Corporate Relations to Strengthen Partnerships with State's Businesses

DURHAM, N.H. - In the wake of the state's $32.5 million budget cut to the University of New Hampshire, administrators remain focused on the crucial role the institution must play in the future of the state and recently announced the hiring of Steve Marchand, former mayor of the city of Portsmouth, as director of corporate relations. Marchand, who will begin Jan. 3, 2012, has been charged with strengthening the relationship between the university and business leaders throughout the state.

UNH Faculty Ranked Among the Nation's Best Researchers

DURHAM, N.H. -- University of New Hampshire scientists are among the nation's best in scientific research, according to a recent report from Thomson Reuters Corporation, formerly the Institute for Scientific Information, that ranks high-impact U.S. universities.

The organization, which ranked universities based on how frequently their work was cited by other researchers, found that UNH scientists ranked fifth nationwide in environmental science/ecology research between 2005 and 2009.

University of New Hampshire Transfer Admissions Information Session Jan. 12, 2012

DURHAM. N.H. - An information session for students interested in transferring to the University of New Hampshire will take place Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Smith Hall, room 106, on the Durham campus. Registration is required.

The event is designed for prospective transfer students who are interested in learning more about UNH, and will include a 30-minute overview of the transfer process followed by a student-led tour of campus.
