More Americans Using Federal Food Assistance Since Recession Ended, Carsey Institute Finds

DURHAM, N.H. - The number of Americans turning to the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, has substantially increased since the recession began and has continued to climb as many Americans have struggled with the economic hardships of the post-recession, weak economy, according to researchers from the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire.

Dept. of Defense Grant to UNH Brings Military Teens to NH for Winter Sports Camps

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension's 4-H Youth Development Program, in partnership with Northeast Passage at UNH, has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense and other partners to share New Hampshire's winter sports experiences with teens from military families around the country during four camps in January and February, 2012. Two of the camps will host teens with physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities, the nation's first-ever winter sports camps for military teens with disabilities.   

UNH Institute on Disability to Release National Disability Statistics

DURHAM, N.H. - The Institute on Disability (IOD) at the University of New Hampshire and partners will release the 2011 Annual Disability Statistics Compendium at a workshop at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011. The Compendium, published as a printed report and web-based tool, pools yearly disability statistics from various federal agencies, making finding and using disability statistics easier.

UNH and UNH Chapter of AAUP at Impasse; Process Continues with Mediation

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire administration and the UNH chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) have agreed that contract negotiations are at impasse for the second time in nearly a year. The next step in the process is mediation, which is expected to occur before the end of the semester.

UNH Scientists Land Roles in European and Japanese Space Missions

DURHAM, N.H. -- Scientists and engineers from the University of New Hampshire's Space Science Center (SSC) have been selected to provide instruments for two upcoming satellite missions led by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The successful proposals draw upon the long history of work done at UNH for other satellite missions, including NASA's Solar-Terrestrial Observatory (STEREO) that was launched five years ago today.

Historians Gather at UNH For Conference on Revolutions Nov. 4

DURHAM, N.H. - Historians from across the world will gather at the University of New Hampshire Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, to discuss the revolutionary movements that transformed Europe, Africa, and the Americas during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

"Atlantic Networks and the Problem of Liberty in the Age of Revolutions, 1776-1815" will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elliott Alumni Center. The conference is free and open to the public.
