Spring Arrives at the UNH Greenhouse Open House March 30 - 31, 2012

DURHAM, N.H. - Usher in spring with a visit to the University of New Hampshire Macfarlane greenhouses during the annual open house Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31, 2012. This year's free event will again provide displays and plenty of information to help chase away winter blues and welcome spring. The greenhouses will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days.

UNH Opens Employee Health Clinic to Cut Costs; Improve Efficiency

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire is aggressively pursuing health care savings and one of the first programs in this comprehensive effort is the opening Feb. 27, of an on-campus clinic for faculty and staff of any University System of New Hampshire institution. Employees will no longer have to leave campus during the day for medical care, x-rays, and routine lab tests and administrators expect the facility to be self-sustaining in less than three years.

UNH Faculty Receive $1.3 Million in Prestigious NSF CAREER Grants

DURHAM, N.H. - Three University of New Hampshire faculty members will explore energy from the ocean, manufacturing on a tiny scale, and speedier computer planning, thanks to prestigious Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Awards from the National Science Foundation. The grants, totaling nearly $1.3 million over five years, went to assistant professors Yannis Korkolis and Martin Wosnik of the mechanical engineering department and Wheeler Ruml of the computer science department.

DURHAM, N.H. - With the full sky shimmering in green aurora, Saturday night (Feb. 18, 2012) a team of scientists, including space physicist Marc Lessard and graduate students from the University of New Hampshire's Space Science Center, launched an instrument-laden, two-stage sounding rocket from the Poker Flat Research Range in Fairbanks, Alaska. The precision measurements from the rocket's instruments will shed new light on the physical processes that create the northern lights and further our understanding of the complex sun-Earth connection.
