UNH Crimes Against Children Research Center Receives $217,000 To Help Victims of Child Pornography

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Crimes against Children Research Center has received a $217,000 federal grant to help the victims of child pornography by identifying promising treatment and policy responses to promote their recovery.

Funded by the Office for Victims of Crime at the U.S. Department of Justice, the two-year grant is part of a larger half a million dollar award to the National Center for Victims of Crime, with which the UNH Crimes against Children Research Center and the National Children's Alliance are collaborating partners.

Northeast Passage Receives U.S. Paralympics Grants for Disabled Veterans Activities

DURHAM, N.H. - U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC), has made two grants to Northeast Passage at the University of New Hampshire to support the program's Paralympic activities for disabled veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Northeast Passage received $150,000 to launch the New England Veterans Paralympic Regional Development Program and $17,000 for its Paralympic Sport Club.

New UNH Exhibit Showcases Cultural Exchange Between N.H. Elementary School Students

DURHAM, N.H. - They come from different backgrounds and experiences, but two groups of New Hampshire elementary school students have learned how much they have in common after participating in an art-based literacy project through the Center for the Advancement of Art-Based Literacy at the University of New Hampshire that allowed them to share their family's immigration stories.

UNH Debuts Landmark Marriage Equality Play '8' Feb. 7 and 10

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire will present a staged reading of the play "8," the nationally acclaimed production about marriage equality based on trial transcripts from California's 2010 court fight over Proposition 8, the initiative that outlawed same-sex marriage in the state, which has since been overturned.

UNH Research: U.S. Hospitality Industry Often Reluctant to Hire People with Disabilities

DURHAM, N.H. - People with disabilities trying to find employment in the U.S. hospitality industry face employers who are often reluctant to hire them because of preconceived notions that they cannot do the job and that they are more costly to employ that people without disabilities, according to new research from the University of New Hampshire.  

UNH Ranks No. 18 in Peace Corps Medium Size School Rankings

DURHAM, N.H. - With 25 alumni currently serving in the Peace Corps, the University of New Hampshire now ranks at No. 18 among medium-sized colleges and universities whose graduates go on to volunteer for the organization that was established by President John F. Kennedy in 1961.

In 2011, with 21 alumni serving, UNH was at No. 25. Since its founding more than 40 years ago, 670 UNH alumni have entered the Peace Corps.

UNH Joins Maine, Vt. Partners to Launch Regional Health Care Reform Network

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire's New Hampshire Institute for Health Policy and Practice (NHIHPP), in partnership with health care reform organizations in Maine and Vermont, has received a grant from the Jessie B. Cox Charitable Trust Fund at The Boston Foundation to support a regional network to provide help with health care reform efforts.

UNH Confucius Institute Celebrates Year of the Dragon Jan. 31

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Confucius Institute will celebrate the Chinese New Year - the Year of the Dragon - Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, with performances by the Wenqin Performing Arts Group of Zhejiang University.

The group from Hangzhou, China, will be part of a larger celebration that will include the ballet performance of The White-Haired Girl and two martial arts performances by Dai Haibin of Chengdu University.
