Gulf Coast Residents Say BP Oil Spill Changed Their Environmental Views, UNH Research Finds

DURHAM, N.H. -- University of New Hampshire researchers have found that residents of Louisiana and Florida most acutely and directly affected by the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster -- the largest marine oil spill in U.S. history -- said they have changed their views on other environmental issues as a result of the spill.

DURHAM, N.H. - Researchers at the University of New Hampshire's Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping (CCOM) helped develop a new iPad and iPhone application that aims to protect critically endangered North Atlantic right whales from collisions with ships. Kurt Schwehr, affiliate assistant professor, research associate professor Lee Alexander, and research scientist Roland Arsenault, led key technical aspects of the WhaleALERT app launched last week.

UNH Names Three N.H. Students Liberal Arts Trout Scholars

DURHAM, N.H. -- Three students in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of New Hampshire have been named the 2012 B. Thomas Trout Scholarship recipients. The students will receive scholarships to be used toward their study abroad program expenses in the 2012-13 academic year.

The 2012 B. Thomas Trout Scholarship recipients are Joshua Ratliff, of Dover, who is majoring in French and political science; Catherine Bousquet, a psychology major from Newton; and Alexa Price, a history major from Stratham. 

UNH Hosts Two Public Forums on Campus Master Plan Update April 17, 2012

DURHAM, N.H. -- The community is invited to attend either of two open forums on the update of the University of New Hampshire campus master plan Tuesday, April 17, 2012, from 12:40-2 p.m. in room 208 of New Hampshire Hall or 4-5:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Building Theater II.

Each session will begin with a presentation on the key aspects of the draft plan. There will be an opportunity during each forum to discuss the advantages and impacts of all elements of the draft plan including:

UNH Philosophy Professor to Deliver Lindberg Lecture April 17

DURHAM, N.H. - Charlotte Witt, professor of philosophy and humanities at the University of New Hampshire and recipient of the 2011 Lindberg Award, will deliver the Lindberg Lecture Tuesday, April 17, 2011. The highest award of the College of Liberal Arts, the Lindberg Award is given annually to an outstanding teacher and scholar in the college.

Witt's lecture, "Gender Essentialism: Identity or Classification?" begins at 1 p.m. in 110 Murkland Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.
