UNH kicked off its First Generation College Celebration Week on Nov. 2, with a series of events recognizing and celebrating the presence and success of first-generation students, faculty, staff and alumni at UNH. Representatives from the offices of US Sen. Maggie Hassan, US Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, Congresswoman Annie Kuster and Congressman Chris Pappas read words of encouragement to students. Events hosted by the Paul College, the Office of Community, Equity and Diversity, the MUB, the E-Center, Health and Wellness, the Beauregard Center, and Hamel Rec Center filled the week with many opportunities for engagement, and I hope you were able to take part.

Today, Nov. 8, is National First-Gen College Day and marks the end of the week’s celebration. I would like to share a short video playing tribute to our first generation students and those who work to support them. You can find that video here.

To the employees in TRIO, the Beauregard Center, CONNECT, the individual colleges and the other spaces on campus that support the success of first generation students—thank you!
