Membership in the ARA is open to all age 50+, whether fully retired or not. As of Spring 2019, over 400 members represent 40 cities & towns in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts.


The annual membership fee of $25 for 2020-21 covers all classes, programs, and groups (excluding cultural tours).  Programs are held in the New Hampshire/Maine Seacoast area and are organized into four-week terms from September to June.  First time members who join after January 1 will be offered a reduced membership fee.

UNH Library

Members of ARA can take advantage of the University of New Hampshire libraries and their more than one million books, periodicals, and recordings.  The heart of the system, including special interest libraries, is the Dimond Library just behind Thompson Hall on the UNH campus.  To receive a library card, show your current membership badge at the Main Desk.  The card is valid for the current membership year.

Many ARA Programs Will Go Virtual this Fall

The ARA is in planning stages of using ZOOM as the virtual meeting place to keep us engaged this fall at half the membership cost. Yes, there will be speakers and presentations, discussions and virtual socialization while staying safe from COVID-19. Keep tuned!

In the meantime:

Programs on Demand (PODs) - may continue at the discretion of each POD Coordinator following the prevailing CDC guidelines.

 Committee Meetings - may continue at the discretion of each Committee Director/Chair virtually or in person, following prevailing CDC guidelines.

 Hikes - may continue at the discretion of the Hikes Coordinator, but there must be NO CAR POOLING and must follow prevailing CDC guidelines.
