What do basketball, butchering, Anthony Bourdain and bad-guy movie monsters have to do with each other?

Admittedly, not much. But they are all connected if you are Dane DiLiegro ’11 and you’re on a career journey that has taken you from New England to Italy to Hollywood in a relatively short few years.

Kennedy McGrath ’25 was studying alongside the Pacific Ocean as part of UNH’s EcoQuest program in New Zealand when she received news she’d been chosen as a recipient of the NOAA Hollings Scholarship, becoming the second UNH student to receive the honor for sophomore students since 2019.

In a state that is woefully short on mental health workers, UNH alums are keeping the field afloat.

From March 30 through April 1, dozens of scholars in the social sciences and humanities from around the continent met on the UNH campus and at The Browne Center for the 2023 Dunfey/Sidore Symposium, dedicated to discussions on critical and sometimes controversial issues facing our society. This year’s symposium, “The Ethics of Encounter: Research, Communities, and Repair,” explored ethical, collaborative and reparative aspects of social scientists’ research, focusing on restorative justice for communities that have been wronged by history.
