Celebrate the Holidays with the UNH Seacoast Alumni Chapter and UNH President Mark Huddleston

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire Seacoast Alumni Chapter invites alumni and friends to its second annual Holiday Cocktail Reception Wednesday, Dec.  8, 2010, at the Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m.  Registration is required.

Share in the merriment of the season with UNH President Mark Huddleston, fellow UNH alumni, and friends. President Huddleston will speak about the university's strategic plan, "UNH in 2020."

Restaurants Post Large Gains in UNH Franchise Index in Third Quarter

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Rosenberg Center Franchise 50 Index, which tracks publicly traded companies in the United States engaged in business format franchising, rose 11.5 percent in the third quarter of 2010 on the strength of double-digit gains by most restaurant companies.

Winter Parking Ban at UNH's Durham Campus

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire Winter Parking Ban will begin Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, and continue nightly through March 31, 2010. During this time most campus parking lots and spaces close at midnight and remain closed through 6 a.m. Parking during these hours (midnight-6 a.m.) is limited to designated "exempt" lots, and conditionally available in "weather-conditional" lots. Violators are subject to ticketing and towing.

UNH Hosts Gourmet Dinner 'A Common Table' Dec. 3 and 4

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire's Hospitality Management advanced food and beverage class will host the Gourmet Dinner "A Common Table" Friday, Dec. 3 and Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010.

The dinners will take place at Stillings, 20 Ballard Drive. Hors d'oeuvres begin at 6 p.m., followed by a six-course dinner at 7 p.m. The dinners, which are student run and serve as the capstone experience for the advanced food and beverage management course, are a 50-year-old tradition at UNH.

Community Development Pioneer Available to Discuss Possible Collapse of World's Largest Microfinance Industry in India

DURHAM, N.H. - Community development pioneer Michael Swack is available to discuss the possible collapse of India's $5 billion private microfinance industry - the largest microfinance system in the world - as well as the underlying problems with microfinancing worldwide.

Swack is a professor of economics and management at the University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business and Economics and a fellow at the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire.

UNH Poinsettia Trials Open House Is Dec. 2 - 4, 2010

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Macfarlane Greenhouses and Thompson School Horticultural Facility host the popular Poinsettia Trials Open House Thursday, Dec. 2 through Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010. New England Economic Outlook Precarious; Government Fiscal Woes Threaten Region's Recovery

DURHAM, N.H. -- The New England economic outlook remains precarious, with the regional economy struggling to continue its recovery if the U.S. economy remains weak. The looming federal and state fiscal crises will make a difficult road to recovery in the region even more difficult, according to Ross Gittell, James R. Carter Professor of Management at the University of New Hampshire.
