DURHAM, N.H. - Nine New Hampshire companies recently received project awards from the New Hampshire Innovation Research Center (NHIRC) at the University of New Hampshire to support research conducted at academic institutions throughout the state. These partnerships encourage innovation in New Hampshire businesses which in turn improves their competitive capabilities and potential for economic growth. The state benefits through the creation of new businesses, jobs and enhanced tax revenues. Listed are the companies awarded for 2011.

UNH Experts Available to Discuss 25th Anniversary of Challenger Disaster

DURHAM, N.H. - Two experts from the University of New Hampshire are available to discuss the 25th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. The Space Shuttle Challenger exploded Jan. 28, 1986, leading to the deaths of its seven crew members, including Concord (N.H.) High School teacher Christa McAuliffe, who was to become NASA's first Teacher in Space.

UNH's 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Focuses on Combating Hate Jan. 27-Feb. 10, 2011

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire's 21st annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Jan. 27-Feb. 10, 2011, will engage the campus community in a dialogue about the recent increase in hate crimes and extremism in our nation. Featuring Morris Dees, co-founder of Southern Poverty Law Center, celebration activities will explore the reasons for the rise in hate acts, including, racism, the recession, anti-immigration sentiments, the political environment, homophobia, and religious intolerance.

Kennedy Scholar Available to Discuss 50th Anniversary of Inauguration

DURHAM, N.H. - Kennedy scholar Ellen Fitzpatrick, professor of history at the University of New Hampshire, is available to discuss the Kennedy legacy as the nation marks the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of John F. Kennedy Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011.

Kennedy's call to service, his emphasis on change, and his faith in the future inspired a generation of Americans who still hold close the memory of the young president whose administration lasted little more than a thousand days. A half a century later, those ideals still resonate," Fitzpatrick says.

Catholic Scholar Available to Comment on Meaning of Pope John Paul II's Beatification to U.S. Catholics

DURHAM, N.H. - Catholic scholar Michele Dillon, professor of sociology at the University of New Hampshire, is available to discuss what the beatification of Pope John Paul II means to U.S. Catholics. Pope John Paul II will be beatified May 1, 2011. Beatification is the first step to official sainthood in the Catholic Church.
