UNH Carsey Institute: Northern, Western N.H. Towns Most at Risk of Food Insecurity

DURHAM, N.H. - Granite Staters in northern and western parts of New Hampshire are most at risk to experience food insecurity as a result of having fewer resources to buy the food that they need to stay healthy, according to new research from the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire and the Children's Alliance of New Hampshire.

UNH Professor's Groundbreaking Research Leads to International Economics Initiative, Research Center

DURHAM, N.H. - Groundbreaking research conducted by Michael Goldberg, the Roland H. O'Neal Professor of Economics at the University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business and Economics, has led to the creation of an international research center at the University of Copenhagen that is part of a comprehensive initiative of the Institute of New Economic Thinking (INET), founded by financier and philanthropist George Soros.

UNH Students Compete in Washington, D.C., With Innovative Wind Energy Project

A University of New Hampshire student project seeking to harvest the wind energy from bridge underpasses has been selected to compete for the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Award at its National Sustainable Design Expo April 21 - 23, 2012, in Washington, D.C.

Awarded $15,000 in phase one development funding, five undergraduates and one graduate student in both civil and mechanical engineering will travel to Washington to compete against more than 40 teams from universities nationwide for up to $90,000 in phase two funding.

UNH Hospitality Management Department Hosts Wine Expo May 1

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business and Economics Department of Hospitality Management, in partnership with Horizon Beverages, will host the 2nd Annual Wine Expo N.H. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the Whittemore Center Arena. 

The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. 

The Wine Expo N.H. will include hundreds of wines from around the world to taste, hors d'oeuvres, a pork carving station, artisanal and international cheeses, and live jazz music. Proceeds will benefit scholarships for hospitality management students.

Federal Funding Available to N.H. Small Businesses for Innovation and Commercialization

Inspires Innovation program, a collaboration of the New Hampshire Innovation Research Center (NHIRC) and the New Hampshire Small Business Development Center (NH SBDC), is offering a series of statewide workshops for companies interested in applying for competitive federal grants designed to stimulate technology innovation and commercialization.

'Iron Chef' Competitor, Washington Post Food Editor Special Guests at UNH Gourmet Dinner April 27 and 28

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire may not be home to the famed kitchen stadium of the Food Network's "Iron Chef" competition, but a Seacoast-area chef who competed on the popular television show will pull out all the stops as he works side by side with students from the University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business and Economics (WSBE) at the next gourmet dinner April 27 and 28, 2012.

Report a Crime: There's an App for That: UNH Is First University to Use New Crime Fighting App

DURHAM, N.H. - A new mobile phone application developed for the University of New Hampshire by a UNH School of Law student aims to help fight crime with technology.

Third-year law student Eman Pahlevani developed the smartphone app CrimePush with his brother, Shyan, and friend Samier Mansur, after Shyan was the victim of a robbery in Washington, D.C.

A special version of CrimePush has been developed for UNH's Durham campus. It can be downloaded at iTunes and the Google Android store.

N. H. Authors Series Presents Rebecca Rule at the University of New Hampshire April 22, 2012

DURHAM, N.H. - The N.H. Author Series, hosted by the Friends of Dimond Library at the University of New Hampshire, will present New Hampshire humorist Rebecca Rule Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. in the Dimond Library's 5th floor reading room.

Rule, who traditionally hosts the series, will be interviewed by author and former New Hampshire poet laureate Marie Harris.

Statement from the University of New Hampshire on Tragic Greenland Incident

On Thursday, April 12, 2012, University of New Hampshire Police Detective Eric Kulberg was one of four members of the New Hampshire Attorney General's Drug Task Force shot while executing a search warrant at a home in Greenland; Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney was also fatally shot in the incident. Detective Kulberg, a seven-year veteran of the UNH Police Department and a graduate of UNH, was released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. We ask members of the media to respect the privacy of Detective Kulberg and his family during this difficult time.
