Student Senate Speaker

About

The Speaker of the Student Senate is the sole spokesperson and leader of the internal structure of the Student Senate. The Speaker oversees and appoints the Officers of the Student Senate, and sits on the Student Activity Fee Committee (SAFC) Executive Board.  They chair all meetings of the Student Senate, and are also the chairperson of the Election Committee and the SAFC Appeals Boad. They are ex-officio members of all councils and committees of the Student Senate, and work to convey resolutions passed by the Student Senate to the Administration or other interested parties.

Due to the importance and need for such a position to be unbiased, the Speaker is required to be largely non-partisan in Student Senate business. 


The Student Senate Speaker shall be the legitimate representative voice of the Student Senate.

Parliamentarian

About

The Parliamentarian is the leading figure on the Governing Documents of the Student Senate, including parliamentary procedure found in Robert's Rules of Order. The Parliamentarian is often viewed as the deputy to the Speaker, filling in for them in their absence and chairing meetings of the Student Senate when they are unable to do so. The Parliamentarian also chairs the Judiciary Committee.

Due to the importance and need for such a position to be unbiased, the Parliamentarian is required to be largely non-partisan in Student Senate business.

Executive Officer

About

The Executive Officer (Ex-O) maintains the membership roster of Student Senate, and ensures that all members of the body meet the necessary qualifications to remain in office. The Ex-O determines the number of Student Senator seats per constituency for each session, and works to fill vacant positions within the Student Senate. The Executive Officer also organizes the annual Fall Orientation for members of the Student Senate.

Due to the importance and need for such a position to be unbiased, the Executive Officer is required to be largely non-partisan in Student Senate business.

Director of Public Relations

About

The Director of Public Relations (DPR) is the chief outreach officer of the Student Senate, and is charged with its publicitiy, merchandising, online presence, and social media. They are also largely responsible for organizing voter outreach during elections, and, along with the Executive Officer, filling vacancies in positions and seats on the Student Senate.

The Director of Public Relations chairs, and is assisted by the members of, the Public Relations Committee.

Business Manager

About

The Business Manager of the Student Senate is the head of the finances of the Student Senate, and represents the internal structure of the body on the Student Activity Fee Committee (SAFC). The Business Manager is charged with ensuring the proper disposal of Student Senate's budget and submits a proposed budget to SAFC on behalf of the Student Senate every fiscal year.

About

The Historian of the Student Senate is responsible for writing and maintaining the minutes of Student Senate meetings, and the minutes of Student Activity Fee Committee meetings. The Historian also acts a resource for historical knowledge and insight for past sessions of the Student Senate, and works closely with the University Archivist to maintain its historical records.

Student Activity Fee Committe (SAFC) Chairperson

About

The Chairperson of the Student Activity Fee Committee (SAFC) is the official spokesperson of SAFC, and often acts as the primary authority on all Student Activity Fee matters within and outside of the Student Senate. The SAFC Chairperson chairs all meetings of the committee, as well as those of the SAFC Executive Board. In this latter capacity, the SAFC Chairperson directly oversees and manages the SAF Chief Financial Officers and the SAF Outreach Director. The SAFC Chairperson is also wholly responsible for the proper management of the Budgets and Concepts process, acting as the central coordinator between current and applicant Student Activity Fee Organizations and the Student Senate, as well assisting the SAF CFOs in the overall allocation of the Student Activity Fee for the following fiscal year.

The Student Activity Fee (SAF) Chief Financial Officers are the primary points of contact between student organizations and the Student Activity Fee Committee, often fufilling the majority of the committee's financial and organizational needs. Amongst the many, difficult to summarize responsibilties of the Chief Financial Officers, the CFOs are responsible for overseeing the Student Activity Fee Organizatons under their purview, helping non-SAFOs apply for SAF funding, and assisting the SAFC Chairperson in the general fiscal management of the Student Activity Fee. 

Due to the extensive and ever-growing nature of student programming, the Student Senate holds two Chief Financial Officers.

SAFOs under purview

Currently, SAF CFO 1 is assigned the following Student Activity Fee Organizations:

  1. Campus Activities Board (CAB)
  2. Diversity Support Coalition (DSC)
  3. Mask & Dagger Dramatic Society
  4. Organic Gardening Club (OGC)

  6. Student Commmittee on Popular Entertainment (SCOPE)

About

The Officers of the Student Senate are responsible for the internal operations and services of the Student Senate. The Officers of the Student Senate report to the Speaker, and the entirety of the Officer Corps is collectively responsible to the Student Senate itself.

Three of these Officers, the SAFC Chairperson and the two SAF Chief Financial Officers, make up the voting membership of the SAFC Executive Board. Please refer to that page for more information.
