Edge Project Update

Can you share an update on the status of the Edge project?

UNH is preparing to begin construction on the Center of Excellence for Ocean Mapping, to be located near the West Edge parking lot. Funded in large part through $25 million in federal support, the new facility will also serve as the future home of the John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center and include 35,000 square feet of high-bay space for industry co-location and collaboration. It will support cutting-edge research, applied training, and technical assistance in ocean mapping, while expanding opportunities for experiential learning and advanced manufacturing partnerships. Additional details on the construction timeline will be shared soon.

The Center of Excellence is also the first step toward realizing the broader vision for the Edge Innovation District. This potential project would integrate research, living, office, education, and hospitality space into a vibrant mixed-use community. Conversations are ongoing about this long-term opportunity with the Board of Trustees, a potential development partner, the Town of Durham, and industry collaborators. We will continue to share updates as the project evolves.
