Interim Associate Vice President for Community, Equity and Diversity
For the last twenty years, diversity and social justice have been at the forefront of Monica’s work at UNH. Her courses in Asian American studies might address the literature of Japanese American internees or the graphic narratives of Southeast Asian refugees; her Discovery courses focus on pressing issues related to current American race relations while also delving into UNH’s Special Collections to assess what has changed at UNH and in New England and what still needs our attention. She is influenced culturally by having lived abroad several times, as an undergraduate, an employee for a large corporation, and with her family when she taught in the UNH Cambridge Program and as a Fulbright Scholar. Working with faculty, staff, students, and the wider community in a variety of roles, she continues to learn and to be challenged. Read more about Prof. Chiu
