Mission

Health & Wellness provides whole person-centered care and services, illness prevention and health promotion, co-curricular learning opportunities, and public health leadership and expertise. All are tailored to support our students’ health, well-being, and personal development, the health of the campus community and the mission of our University.

The Well‑Being Wheel is a circular infographic titled ‘Well‑Being Wheel.’ At the center is the concept of Wellness, defined as actively caring for oneself to achieve well‑being. Surrounding the center is a blue ring labeled Identity and Values, highlighting personal identity and core values as the foundation of wellness. Eight equally sized circles encircle the center, representing dimensions of well‑being. Emotional well‑being focuses on self‑kindness and experiencing a range of emotions. Environmental well‑being emphasizes engaging with safe, accessible, and sustainable spaces. Financial well‑being is the ability to meet basic needs and manage money short‑ and long‑term. Intellectual well‑being involves balancing stimulation and rest to support curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Occupational well‑being refers to pursuing work that supports goals, growth, and success. Physical well‑being centers on understanding the body and meeting needs for health, healing, and energy. Social well‑being highlights building respectful, trusting, and authentic relationships. Spiritual well‑being focuses on connecting to inner and outer values and purpose. The wheel is visually framed by multiple hands arranged in a circle, symbolizing care, inclusion, and communal support across diverse individuals and communities. The image is branded with Health and Wellness.

Building a Culture of Well-Being

Health & Wellness is committed to building a culture of well-being at UNH.

Well-being is an optimal and dynamic state that allows people to achieve their full potential through both the individual pursuit of wellness and the commitment and support of the communities to which they belong.

Wellness is an active process that helps individuals reach their optimal well-being by integrating all the dimensions of wellness into their lives: physical, social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, intellectual, occupational and financial.

Our Wellness Approach

Health & Wellness views students and other members of the UNH community as whole and dynamic individuals. We are sensitive to how the components of our lives impact our health and well-being. We encourage personal responsibility for achieving and maintaining wellness. Our approach not only assists in the process of healing, but also provides information and care to maintain and enhance well-being according to individual needs and desires.

Health & Wellness also realizes the environments in which we live and work also impact well-being. This means our efforts to support wellness for the individual must include working to create a healthy community that supports the well-being of its members.

Our goal is to optimize wellness, now and for the future.
