The University of New Hampshire is ranked third in the nation for free speech according to a new national report from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) and College Pulse. It is the second time in three years that UNH has finished No. 3 in the rankings.

SubCom, an international leader in the subsea fiber optic cable industry, employs more than 50 UNH graduates at its Newington location, including several – like James Toth ’89 – who have enjoyed a professional journey as circuitous as some of the intricate cable networks SubCom has assembled on the ocean floor.

As the recipient of the 2023 UNH Sustainability Institute Lifetime Achievement Award, Ju-Chin Huang was initially unsure what to think.   

“It’s funny because this a lifetime achievement award, so it feels like it’s time to retire,” Huang jokingly remarked. “But of course, I was honored to receive the award, it’s a very nice recognition.”

President James W. “Jim” Dean Jr. announced today that he will retire as president of the University of New Hampshire on June 30, 2024. At that time, Dean will have served six years as president of the state’s flagship public research university and more than two years as interim chancellor of the University System of New Hampshire.

UNH received $210 million in competitive external funding in FY23, supporting research projects that improve lives in New Hampshire and beyond.
