Adapting to encountering the unexpected is a significant part of the curriculum for those in UNH’s wilderness emergency medical care course. But the events of a March 23 meeting of the class will likely leave a particularly unique impression on all of the students – and one high school assistant principal more than 3,000 miles away.

Nishanth Arulappan was mid-way through medical school when he realized medicine could not be the sole focus of his career. He felt there was more – more of life to experience and more pathways in which he could be an effective agent of change – beyond the everyday routine of a doctor in clinical practice.

The University of New Hampshire has named Lucy Gilson dean of the Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, effective Aug. 15, 2022. Gilson will succeed Deborah Merrill-Sands, who is retiring as dean of the college after serving in the role for more than seven years.

University of New Hampshire Chief of Police and Associate Vice President for Public Safety and Risk Management Paul Dean was elected president-elect of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).

“It is with great enthusiasm I accept this important role," Dean says. "I would like to thank the IACLEA membership for placing their  confidence and trust in me to serve them. I humbly accept this role as president-elect of IACLEA and, next June, as president for the 2023/2024 term.”
