DURHAM, N.H.—Interested in creating a wildflower meadow to support New Hampshire’s native pollinators? Come and learn fun, effective and beautiful ways to enhance the local habitat and bring back pollinators Tuesday, July 30, 2019, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station’s Woodman Horticultural Research Farm, 70 Spinney Lane, at the University of New Hampshire. The event is free and open to the public.
DURHAM, N.H. — Nicoletta Gullace, associate professor of history at the University of New Hampshire who studies 20th century and modern British history, is available to discuss the wide appeal and historical accuracy of the much beloved television drama “Downton Abbey.”
Gullace will be available at the media tour for “Downton Abbey, The Exhibition” at The Castle at Park Plaza, Boston, on Friday, June 14, 2019, from 2-4 p.m. This event is not open to the public.

DURHAM, N.H.—The University of New Hampshire has launched a new center focused on the science of sound. The Center for Acoustics Research and Education (CARE) will bring together expertise across wide-ranging disciplines and provide acoustics research, education and outreach opportunities for government and industry partners across the U.S.
Acoustics is a branch of physics that involves the properties of sound waves; more specifically, CARE will initially focus on environmental acoustics, which takes into account sound movement through the air, on land, and under water.

DURHAM, N.H.—Engineers at the University of New Hampshire have designed a unique living laboratory on a heavily traveled iconic bridge which could change the way infrastructure is viewed. The Memorial Bridge, which links Portsmouth, New Hampshire to Kittery, Maine, has been outfitted with data sensors that have transformed it into a self-diagnosing, self-reporting “smart” bridge that captures a range of information from the health of the span to the environment around it.
DURHAM, N.H.—A team of alumni from the University of New Hampshire has won the Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE, a global competition to advance deep-sea technologies for ocean floor exploration. The GEBCO-Nippon Foundation Alumni Team—alumni and industry partners and advisors based at UNH’s Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping (CCOM)—prevailed against teams from around the world to win the top prize of $4 million for their concept.
DURHAM, N.H.—Sometimes referred to as nature’s calendar, phenology looks at the seasonal life cycle of plants and animals and is one of the leading indicators of climate change. It’s the observance of natural occurrences like the first formation of buds and flowers in the spring and the changing colors of leaves in the fall. According to researchers at the University of New Hampshire, when the rate of the Earth’s air temperature slows down for a significant amount of time, so can phenology.
